Solar Eclipse Info for August 1, 2008
Jeffrey Brock of the Astrological & Metaphysical Research Center in Miami, FL provides us his insights on the upcoming Solar Eclipse:
"Solar eclipses are new moons. Lunar eclipses are full moons. Some have said that the difference between them astrologically is that the solar eclipse acts like an ‘invitation’, whereas a lunar eclipse acts like a ‘demand’.
Solar eclipses are grouped into what’s called ‘Saros Cycles’. The word ‘Saros’ comes from the Greek and means ‘repetition’ or ‘to be repeated’. Each solar eclipse is part of a group of Saros series. Members of the same Saros series occur every 18.6 years. It takes about 1300 years to complete an entire Saros series of eclipses. The beginning of each Saros series is always at one of the poles and then, every 18.6 years works its way gradually toward the opposite pole of the earth. The beginning of each Saros series has a specific astrological chart associated with it and from that we can tell something about the entire series. From that understanding, placing the specific eclipse into a persons chart then provides a great deal more clarity on that eclipse.
The total solar eclipse on August 1st, 2008 is from the Saros Series called “S.S. 10 South” and had its beginning on March 10th, 1179 at the South Pole. This series will end on April 13th, 2423 at the North Pole.
Regarding this series, Bernadette Brady writes in her book, “The Eagle and the Lark” on page 323, “This Saros Series concerns itself with breaking out of a very negative situation where no hope can be seen to a more positive space containing many options. A worry that may have been affecting a person will suddenly clear. The solution is shown by the Cosmos and needs to be taken up without too much delay.”
This particular solar eclipse will occur at 09 Leo 32’ indicating that anyone with sensitive points in their charts at 09 degrees 32’ of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) or at 24 degrees 32’ of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) will be triggered by this eclipse. Please call me for consultation time if you think you’re one of these people. My thought is that it’s better to be prepared for these things. Just a word to the wise. J
Previous Incarnations = 06/30/54 @ 08Cancer10, 07/10/72 @ 18Cancer37, 07/22/90 @ 29Cancer04
Next Incarnation = 08/12/2026 @ 20Leo02
Sabian Symbol = 10Leo = The Sabian symbol for this month is “Early morning dew”. The keyword mentioned by Marc Edmund Jones in his book, “The Sabian Symbols in Astrology” is “Rejuvenation”. He says, “When positive, the degree is a special talent for finding the better in every situation where a worse may threaten disaster, and when negative, procrastination and total insensibility to the real powers of selfhood.”
